When Is the Kentucky Derby 2025?

The 151st Kentucky Derby will be held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Leading up to the big day is a series of prep races as part of the road to the Kentucky Derby. There is a series of four different races where horses in the top five earn points. Only the top 20 horses that finish with the most points will be able to race in the Kentucky Derby. 

The Kentucky Derby is much more than one of the most popular horse racing events. It marks the official kickoff to the Triple Crown, consisting of three races for three-year-old horses. In order to claim this prestigious title, the horse must win all three races, starting with the Kentucky Derby.  

Next, they must win the Preakness Stakes race held two weeks later. Lastly, they must win the Belmont Stakes, which is held three weeks after the Preakness Stakes. What TV Channel Is the Kentucky Derby On?

The Kentucky Derby 2025 will be hosted by NBC Sports with live coverage beginning at noon (EST) or 10 a.m. here in Salt Lake City. You can watch the race on the USA Network, NBC, or livestream it through Peacock. 

What Time Is the Main Race of the Kentucky Derby?

While the annual “Run for the Roses” is an all-day affair, the main race does not take place until sometime between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. EST, which is between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. in Salt Lake City.
